For over 400 years, these sacred masks have danced between the human and the divine.
Known as Furumen, they are hand-carved from camphor or cedar and used in menburyu, a ritual performance from western Saga Prefecture.

Their origin lies in a legend: warriors adorned with red crests and Oni masks once stormed the battlefield to the beat of drums and bells.
Their victorious return became celebration—and that celebration became tradition.

Each mask is carved in pairs—A and Un—to represent the full breath of the universe.
Today, they are revered not only in ritual, but as protective symbols and spiritual artworks.

Only three living artisans in Japan still carry the knowledge to carve them. Among them is Keiun Komori V, the fifth-generation sculptor of Sugichō.

These are not decorations.
They are guardians—silent protectors of space, spirit, and story.

KABUTO "Ryūjin" [龍神]– Wooden Samurai Helmet – Armor of the Ancients

In feudal Japan, the ”KABUTO”—samurai helmet—was not just battlefield armor.
It was a declaration of identity, a bearer of courage, and a vessel of spiritual protection.
Even today, it remains a powerful symbol of strength and honor in Japanese culture.

Displayed each spring during the Tango no Sekku (Boys' Day) festival, kabuto are offered as prayers for a child’s health, bravery, and victorious future.

Each wooden helmet in this collection is sculpted by Keiun Komori V, the fifth-generation master of Sugichō,
who also carves Furumen, the sacred ritual masks passed down for over 400 years.

Carved from cedar or camphor wood, the helmet is designed to age gracefully—its color deepens as the child grows.
A family crest (kamon) may be engraved on the forehead, transforming each piece into a personal heirloom of protection.
